My work explores embodied knowledge, the intelligence of instinct, surprise and wonder, flux and flow through plays of repetition, iteration, and language. I begin with a material or verbal curiosity and explore my fascination with careful and meditative actions. These investigations take form in drawing, text, animation, and combinations of found objects, often times resulting in ambiguous compositions and patterned imagery. I see materials in a continuum, changing form and shape, and I try to approach them without hierarchical value. I am attracted to word play, the double entendre, optical illusion, all the ways in which a material can be constructed, taken apart, patterned, repeated, and turned around. My interest lies not in achieving originality or innovation, but rather in discovering underlying narratives in phenomena embedded in the physical and cultural landscapeconstructing a flexible story around the one-liner.
